Richard Waterfield's profile

Waterfield Group Moves to Roanoke HQ

Richard Waterfield spent 23 years as the co-chairman and chief executive officer of Waterfield Group and Waterfield Enterprises in Irvine, California, the largest private financial company in the United States. In 2020, Richard Waterfield led the acquisition of a building complex in Roanoke, Indiana, to serve as the company’s new headquarters.

Situated in the heart of Roanoke, the historic building complex accounts for 24,000 square feet of space. That said, the move from Los Angeles to Roanoke, Indiana, was as much about promoting rural town values as it was the space provided by the former home of American Specialty Insurance.

Indeed, Roanoke has served as a beacon for small-town America in recent decades, with the Eshelman family driving the town’s renaissance through the restoration of numerous properties and commercial spaces. The Eshelman family made a similar decision in 1989 when they chose Roanoke over Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City as the location for their sports insurance business.
