Within the spatial study of the dunes of Kurnell, my aim within the project was to shift the focus away from the dunes themselves, but rather the vegetation and shadows around them that they harbour and enhance. The use of negative space alludes to the infinite expanse of the site, and the feeling of insignificance within the dunes. Light, incomplete lines emphasise the soft slopes of the dunes and allow the viewer to interpret the dunes in varying ways. The use of ink and stippling creates a contrast between the identifiable features and the dunes themselves, which further implies the presence of the dunes and highlights the other features as the focal point.
