In early 2022, Discord wanted to tease its much-requested integration with PlayStation. My coworkers were given a short timeline of 2.5 to produce a announcement video. We quickly went to the drawing board and sketched out concepts: we knew that our fans were most excited to play the upcoming RPG, Elden Ring, while hanging out on our chat at. To join in our audience's hype, we decided that our trailer should pay cheeky homage to the game's dark fantasy mood in an over-the-top, campy, Discord-y way.

The video was received with excitement, generating 1,400,000+ views on YouTube.

A year later, on the heels of our success with the first video, Discord's marketing team approached us again to produce a follow-up — this time for the launch of our full voice chat feature on PlayStation. I teamed up with copywriter Beth Roesner who quickly saw that we needed to double down on the bit, acknowledge how long we've been teasing the feature without actually releasing it, but it's finally, finally here... unless??
