The house i work in is located on Grünberger strasse in a close proximity to Boxhagener Platz in Friedrichshain, Berlin. Walking around you can observe signs of a power struggle, cleaning the residue of the world I am looking for. Battle between the idea of the old and the new reality. Different data streams intertwining, memory politics.
My initial thought was to explore a space of a juxtaposition between the neoliberal gentrified outside and the communal creative inside of the studio in this house.
And to explore what exactly is my personal relationship to the nostalgic romanticism of the resistance against neoliberalism and extreme capitalism in a space that seems to reminisce about it while at the same time being surrounded and swallowed by them? Processual findings, gathering data, where is the information taking me? Is it taking me to a place that this space exhumes or am I taking the keys I find and projecting them onto my project to steer the narrative? Maybe what I set out to explore was a visible sign that I can still find signs of the fight in what I romanticize and remember as an alternative, creative, communal, punk, free, powerful space. I am trying to dig out expressions, collecting leftover graffiti, political writings, street commentary and acts of violence that point out or oppose to what I consider to be a time of dead malaise, an apathetic time that is being lost, seems inactive, that seems to flow through the fingers like sand as we pass the world, observing sceneries in the exact moment that they disappear in liminal spaces, designed for someone else that is not us in the future.
And this liminality of time is being felt in the studio space, the duality of wish and reality. The walls in the studio and around it have certain signs of the projections that I am searching for but it feels disjunct to reality. I feel as if I take any kind of a sign and emphasize it because my wish to have an active communal creative space is so big.

While thinking about what my position in this space is,
I design a robot that i feed with memories that i found around me in the space i work in and on the streets walking around it in Friedrichshain. Memories are in a form of visual statements stored in robot's memory and available for it to choose from to write and print a poem.
this is her:
It is a punk robot that writes political poetry. She has a memory of 110 impressions gathered around the time and space of this residency. She runs a code on an arduino, randomly selecting five files from it’s memory and printing them out on a thermal printer every time someone presses a button, asking the robot for a poem. In a segment of reading time and mechanical movements of the laser that burns the dots in thermal paper moving right down and left it makes it seem like the robot has its own rhythm printing each file as a political statement and by placing a microphone on the case of the printer it amplifies the robot so it is reciting the poem as well. It is an audio - visual experience for the public.

This project was built as part of a Contiguity residency organised by RadioGaraž & Cirkulacija2.
