ILLUSTRATION CASE STUDY

Illustration series of Aztec Gods. I used a mix of watercolor, gouache and metallic paints to reflect the different densities of matter to represent the difference between the physical and the spiritual. For this case study I selected four of the most ancient aztec dieties: Quetzacóatl, Tláloc, Huitzilopochtli and Tezcatlipoca.

Quetzalcóatl: God of life, light, fertility, civilization and knowledge. Occasionally, also lord of the winds and councilor of the West. Third Tezcatlipoca, associated with the color white or "light".
Tláloc: God of lightning, rain and earthquakes. It was always manifested with characteristic attributes: Eyeglasses formed by snakes that intertwined and whose fangs ended up being the jaws of the god, the face was always painted black or blue to imitate the faces of the water and a spear that respresented thunderbolts.
Huitzilopochtli: God of war. According to legend, Huitzilopochtli was born of Coatlicue, Mother Earth. His weapon was the mythical Xiuhcóatl wich meant "Snake of Fire".
Tezcatlipoca: God of providence, the invisible and darkness. He used to appear represented with a stripe on his face, an obsidian mirror on his chest (where he saw all the actions and thoughts of humanity) and on one leg he shows an exposed bone
