Nr. 14
Nr. 14 is a modular sans serif designed as a tribute to the innovative and timeless furniture design of Thonet, in particular the Bugholz chair No. 14.
Each module of the typeface was developed based on the components and design language of the bentwood chair. Likewise, the module height and width, as well as the stroke width of the individual modules. Finally, the system by which the modules can be assembled to form the respective letters was adapted again and again until both the modules and the resulting typeface showed an association with the Viennese coffee house classic No. 14.
The booklet introduces the Bugholz typeface. From the origin of the idea and the individual modules, to the finished alphabet. The introduction, module development and systematics are presented in the first part of the book, while the individual letters and letter variants are depicted in the second part. The two parts are color-coded to provide intuitive guidance.
