Lisbon Sports Club, The Story Never Told Before

The history of Lisbon Sports Club is remarkable. A club that preferred to remain small and dedicated to its members but that has lived and survived revolutions, pandemics, ultimatums, world wars, economic crises and much more. A club that was fundamental in the development of the sport in Portugal and that was forced to move numerous times, leaving a large part of its past in the dark of its trunks.

It is this story that is now revealed by Nuno Presa Cardoso. In the last 7 years, the author has been collecting documents and information that allowed him to tell the history of the club, in a line that runs parallel to the history of sport in Portugal. He visited the club's archives, the National Library, A Torre do Tombo, the British Historical Society of Portugal, the Algés and Oeiras Libraries, spent nights at the Hemeroteca Digital and mornings at various second-hand booksellers.

From 1861 to the present day, we learn that the first national athletics records were recorded at this club. That the first football tournament between clubs organized in Portugal was won by Lisbon. That various modalities such as rugby, field hockey and tennis were promoted at its Cruz Quebrada field. A work that is part of the club but as reinforced by the Olympic Committee, it is also part of the History of Portugal.

A work of this importance required a timeless editorial design just like the club itself. The dark cover with black printed letters reinforce the character of the discovery. These are elements that are only now seeing the light of day. In every detail we can see the importance of the book. In the silver finishes of the spine, in the green ribbon that marks the page, in the textured paper of an antique white.

A book that surprises with every page you turn, with every chapter you enter. With images and photographs that are over 100 years old and have been recovered with sensitivity and authenticity, preserving the true and historical character of the book.
