GOOGLE DEEPMIND • Visualizing AI
Google DeepMind is a team of scientists, engineers, ethicists and more, committed to solving intelligence, to advance science and benefit humanity. Visualizing AI aims to open up conversations around AI. By commissioning a wide range of designers to create open-source imagery, the project seeks to make AI more accessible. It explores the roles and responsibilities of the technology, weighing up concerns and societal benefits in a highly original collection of designer works.
Google DeepMind did not want to be prescriptive about the visual outputs of the project and wanted to ensure that there is a common understanding of the values that they wanted to communicate through them. Rather than providing moodboards & references, I was matched up with a scientist on each subject intended to elaborate on the philosophical values that were important to carry through in the imagery that is created.
Control & Robotics
“The outer sections of the so-called ‘spinal cord’ represent data being stored. Without getting too specific, the artwork could represent medical data from the human body, computer data, agriculture and so on. The inner smaller pieces represent the collected data inside being stored while the disc-like objects are scanning devices for processing information."
“To depict Artificial General Intelligence I created several iterations of a minimal shape. These shapes represent individual agents. An agent being a particular line of algorithm. Inside are smaller shapes showing the collected data. On the left, the agents can move freely whereas on the right, the agents line up to form a stronger network of shared data.
