The Lost Chord Music Video

As a fan of Gorillaz, I always look forward to when they release a new music video for their songs. Back in 2020 they released a series of music videos for their album "Song Machine" and their final music video was called "The Lost Chord".

While the other music videos they released always delivered visually, it was this one that stood out to me. For starters, the shading on the characters is a bit more cartoony in comparison to the usual videos. It's much more brighter and *pops* more. Which I feel is because this short in particular isn't meshing the characters in a "real world" setting like some of the other music videos for the album were. This contrasts with the use of very well crafted diorama pieces that were based on a location from one of the band's previous albums.

The background also uses a stock image of a real sky with clouds. The clouds start off white but then the begin to get grayer and look like someone put film grain in front of them to make it look more painted and vintage (Which would make sense since their is a homage to Cinemascope before the video starts).

Finally, there's the usage of singer Leee Johns dressed as a 1950's styled horror movie creature who destroys the beach and is the only live action character throughout the video.

I feel that these elements coming together really made this video in particular so unique in comparison to the others released for the album and it was such a great way to cap it off.
