Maasai Mother Mockup
The software used to design the Maasai Mother initially was illustrator. I wanted to redraw the image in a cubist technique, however it was taking too long, and wasn’t interesting enough. I instead used adobe photoshop which was much quicker. Photoshop also gave me more options to make the drawing more interesting as I could incorporate patterns and textures digitally as a form of mixed media.

I also modified the background which consists of thorned Acacia branches in a dry and desolate scenery, which was a good contrast to the colourful image of mother and child. The entire image was redrawn using the pen tool. Each area was filled with various patterns of similar colours, tones, and shades to simulate texture.

The Maasai Mother
The mother has the baby on her left hip, which from my, research displays how Maasai children are traditionally carried, securely wrapped on their mothers’ side as they work and travel by foot. I think the piece captures the Maasai woman ideally in their brightly coloured blue, red, or purple Shuka cloth which they use to adorn themselves.
