Reclaiming Memory

This Project is entirely about the process and is something I encourage others to do if they feel the desire.

In Memory; Things I Discard

It used to be that to share a photograph, you had to put a piece of paper in someone’s hand.
There has always been a notion of photographs representing us in some way, but now with the presentation of Facebook they have become an overwhelming part of our social identity. These images on Facebook are designed to stand in for us in our absence and represent us.

For this project I tried to reclaim some of these images into the real world. As I took these photographs on my 35mm film camera, I deleted the posts from Facebook.

How has Facebook changed image making and image sharing? How has the immediate judgment or applause from others on our posts changed our relationship with those images? The comments become part of the image, part of our memory.

The reproduction of these images into silver prints is an acknowledgement that they no longer represent me but were a part of my past.

I have chosen not to include the actual Images so as to stay true to the project.
