Julieta do Vale + Noemi Romano
Silence is a wide space that doesn’t need to be fulfilled, where we feel comfortable. It doesn’t mean absence of communication. Accepting silence as an important part of communication between people, we think relationships can be more intense and true. An universal form of expression that doesn’t represent a border.
Some people experience silence as a limit that must be crossed, a frontier that must be eliminated with language, saying words.
Silence can be comfortable everywhere, in relation to places and people. It can also be a place to rest from the tiring limits of less dynamic communications. An idea sent through this typographic installation with the word Silêncio (portuguese for silence). The letters are made threedimensional with foam material, lined with light fabric. Each letter is like a mini mattress carved in its shape, as a comfortable looking monolithic presence. These letters are disposed horizontally on the floor in the middle of an empty room.
This comfortable silence’s energy stands in its emptiness and whiteness. Ready to be experienced, silence is like a place to rest easily. A transversal medium that works and involves the senses.
Approximate size of each letter: 50 x 65 x 20 cm
