Futugrafica
For my first solo exhibition at the whitegrid gallery Berlin I created a large format screen print series that were dedicated to one of the most famous typefaces of the 20th century: Futura by Paul Renner. I played with the characteristic of the typeface and used them to create new arrangements and form games. It incorporates the textile patterns of Gunta Stölzl and Anna Albers as additional inspiration and thus opens up a new perspective on the very familiar forms of the classic Futura.
The Prints Kreis, Quadrat, Dreieck are constructed according to their original forms. In Renner's first typeface design, three characteristics in particular stand out, giving the typeface its dynamism:
The series Paul takes up the playful character of the font. I played with the glyphs, disassembled them, let new forms and characters emerge:
The series Konstrukt focuses on the geometry of the letter types and their interaction with each other:
