Freestyle Academy Projects (2011-2013)

Calvin & I

This project was for our Humor/Satire unit. I wrote a stand-up piece for English class and created this image for my Design class. It's a trip-tych of three pictures of myself in a tiger costume (acting as hobbes) with Calvin edited in.
Fragile Magnificence

This short film was for our Explorations unit in my Film Production class. I used original experimental music by a friend of mine, Hume. I used footage from several different BBC wildlife episodes. I altered the footage through Adobe Aftereffects and editied them together in sync with the music using Final Cut X. In my project I am portraying the magnificence of nature, while also showing it's frailty, hence the name of the project: Fragile Magnifecence.
Justice

This is a short film I created with a partner, Becca Walton. We scripted, filmed, and edited the whole piece by ourselves. Our movie is a little choppy due to many changes havng been made and not a lot of time to complete everything.
10 Year Project

In Design, we were asked to create a photoshopped picture of where we see ourselves in 10 years. We were to portray our hopes and our fears in the future. The background is a picture I created with graffiti spray paint of a city at night time to shows my hopes of someday living in Chicago, New York, or Los Angeles. The Alps at the bottom of the picture represent my dream of moving back Switzerland. The old movie camera on the right and the film camera on the left shows how I want to continue making short films and taking pictures for the rest of my life. Cats are my worst fear. The evil cat sitting atop one of the buildings represents my fear of becoming a cat lady and dying alone.
Out of Mind

This was my project for our Surrealist unit in Design class. This project is my absolute favourite image I had ever created at Freestyle. I wanted to portray the out of body experience. It is supposed to give the viewer a calming, meditative feeling. I used two pictures of the same boy, two landscape pictures, and a picture of a tree. All these image I took myself. I altered them through Photoshop, using HDR (High Dynamic Range), Oil filtering, and edited the saturations, contrasts, and opacity.
Killer's Spree

In Design we were asked to create a Mise en Scene that represented the stories we had written in English class. A Mise en Scene is the physical setting of an action (as of a narrative or motion picture). My story was about an average high school girl who enjoyed killing bad guys. My Mise en Scene portrays her and one of her victims in my story.
Music Video Poster

This is a poser I created in Design class for the Music Video I created with a few partners in Film Production. Our Video is a spoof of two kids rap battling about our school, Freestyle. So I decided to use a lot of different tricks we learned in Design class and put together this funny, but awesome poster, advertising our music video.
Freestylin'

In Film Production we were put into groups of two film concentrations and two web/audio concentrations. I worked with Patrick McClellan, Andres Raygada, and Rachel Norton. Andres and Rachel were the web/audio concentrations and they created the music. Patrick and I helped write the song, but we did most of the work with the filming. We created two characters, MC Clellan and Dr. Dres, who are based on our singers: Patrick and Andres. The video is a spoof of two kids rap battling about our school, Freestyle.
Senior Profile Portrait

For our senior project at Freestyle we had to choose a person who has influenced most in our lives. For design we created a Profile Portrait of the person. My project is on my junior US History teacher, Seth Donnelly. He is the man who connected my high school with SOPUDEP down in Haiti. I joined his club my junior year and travelled with him and a group to Haiti twice during the following two summers. I have never met anyone more influential than this man. He is always thinking of others and puts everything he has into his work down in Haiti.
Senior Profile Documentary

I made my senior project about my US history teacher, Seth Donnelly. He is truly the most influential person I have ever met and everyone who knows him would agree. I filmed and edited this documentary with Kendall Simon. Both of have travelled to Haiti with Seth multiple times and had plenty of footage of Haiti to show.
Polarized

This is a picture I took for my Design class. It was based off of a poem I made in my English class about the beauty of photography, how it captures moments and glorifies our world with colors. I used a polaroid camera and its film along with melted crayola crayons. I altered the image's saturation and contast in Photoshop.
Photography

This is a short experimental film I put together based on a poem I wrote in English class. Part of the poem is seen at the beginning of the film. I used a combination of found footage and original footage. I editied the movie together on Final Cut 7. I am trying to portray the beeuty of the still image and the abuse of manipulation.
Courage to Grow

This is a documentary I created with Andrew Thomas. We were both a part of the Students for Haiti Solidarity club at Los Altos High School and he had recently travelled to Haiti, but I had not gone yet. We interviewed many people who were involved with the club and we included footage he took while he was there. Our documentary is about how terrible the school system is in Haiti and what Rea Dol is doing to help fix it and allow people in Haiti the right to eductioan.
"To Overcome the Shadow and the Will to Stay Alight"

This is a narrative illustration I created in my design class. It represents depression by portraying the fight against letting the darkness consume your light. I used Adobe Illustrator to make this image.
Destructive Innocence

This is a diptych I made in Design class representing a story about a straight-A high school senior who lets his friends peer pressure him into drinking. He gets in trouble for his crimes and faces the consequences, including being resinded from his dream college.
Devil's Theory

Devil's Theory is a short film I created with Kyle DeWitt about a boy who lives in a post-apocalyptic world. His father is a scientist who helped contribute to the end of the world. Our character faces trust issues. He encounters a fellow survivor and is forced to either trust the stranger or continue life alone. A group of critics came in and voted on all the junior films. Our film was one of the few that was picked to be screened at our next school exhibition.
Want Some Buns with my Hot Dog?

This was an exercise short film we made while preparing for the Narrative unit in Film Production. I wrote a script, but I told the actors to improvise as much as they wanted. The video was meant to be funny, not to make any sense. It was only an exercise film so it was only screened in class. My teacher and the rest of the students loved it.
Resilience

This is a self-portrait illustration I created for Design class. I used my favourite sport, field hockey, to represent who I am as a person. The hockey stick represents the tools I have, the ball represents the attempts I make, the goalie represents the obstacles, and the net represents my goals in life.
Absorption

This is a self-portrait diptych I made for Design class. I took a picture of a sponge and a field of sunflowers. The sponge represents my mind and how sometimes I absorb all the negativity in life. Sunflowers are my favourite type of flower and they represent how to I need to face the brighter side in life just like how they always face the sun.
No Escape

This is my self-portrait film I made for Film Production class. It was the very first film I ever made at Freestyle. I attempt to portray the fact that sometimes I feel as though I cannot escape my own negative thoughts and how I feel as though I am fading. In the end my conscience tells me to stop running and I look to brighter side of life. Life becomes colorful and I show a quote that basically says life is only as good as your thoughts are.
