Miyagi-Do Timesheet App (Fictional client)
My Role
I was responsible for wire-framing, prototyping, research, and the usability study.
Project Goal
Design an app for Miyagi-Do staff to enable quick and efficient capturing of activities to complete a timesheet.
Target Audience
Staff members at Miyagi-Do. Age ranged from 22 - 45.
Key challenges
The export of data from the app to the payroll system was the biggest challenge found in this project.
It resulted in a seperate job.
Research
Research was conducted via a questionnaire for all staff and two interviews with staff. Three pain points were found in the study. These were accessibility, paper handling and time. These pain points were the focus of the design for the timesheet app.
Design Concepts
In my initial design the app would accessible to both staff and public to see timetables and access information on the club. This idea has was parked due to time and financial constraints of the project, leaving me to focus on the staff to enable the greater need of timesheet capability to be enabled.
Wireframes
User Testing
A moderated user testing session was carried out with three staff members. During the process of interviews I discovered that one of the staff members was partially colour blind. After conducting the user testing I found the Do-jo colours of orange and black were an issue however this could be resolved through inverting the initial design. Further feedback on the timesheet submission was requested. More features were requested for the app which are being work on.

Learnings
Focus on the needs of the client over their wants. This is important when costing out your project to prevent scope creep therefore diminishing your ability to complete the project with the time and financial constraints.
Accessibility consideration needs to be taken into account right from the start of the project and needs to be pointed out to the client. In this project the fix was simple as orange against a black background achieved the readability of the document however if other colours were involved this might not have been able to be achieved.
