Mau's True Self
Children Storybook - Illustrated and Written by Wai Khong

This book is fully illustrated by me, and with a story by myself. I’m inspired to show mental
health, in terms of anxiousness, worrisome, lost and outcast in life, and being lonely, is a
common matter that one can feel. The support of care and love with each other, can make
situations and matters better. In life, we are surrounded by good people who can guide us as angels, but there will be obstacles that make us feel bad. Our true selves are actually within us, and we have to discover it by keeping saying we are all good and okay even if it is a bad day or a good day. It is a children's book content that I would like to portray within my vibrancy of illustration and content.
Mau (Cat) was born to be different from his family and siblings. He has a square headed
feature. Because of the differences, he decided to leave his family, and to find his true self.
Mau couldn’t get through the deep forest and got lost in the strand of Yellow Strings.
Only to find out, he was stuck in Angel’s hair. Angel guided him out of his lost path, eventually.
Mau reaches the longest staircase and it is guarded by the infamous flying arrows. After
climbing up the stairs, he is tired.
He found the Tunnel, where he then felt uncertain and scared. No no, no no, is the only word in his mind. He couldn’t do it. He is afraid of the risks.
Mau passes through the tough time of Clock. Worrying sound of Tick Tock, Tick Tock and
continuing Tick Tock. He managed to reach the end of the tunnel.
Although at the end (of the tunnel), Mau is still worrisome. He meditated for relief and
Princess Turtles came in to rescue him from his inner fear.
At the safe forest, Mau is relieved. He bumped into Bird. They both look really similar
because they are both square headed.
Mau and Bird became good friends and they are searching for their true selves.
In the journey, they rescued Tapir who was stuck in the mangrove. Tapir is square headed too.
Mau, Bird and Tapir became good friends. They meditate in calm before searching for their
true selves and meaning of life.
The world is a troubled place, with bad energy taken over the universe. Their care and love for each other is universal. The power of positive energy awakens the world. The true selves are within ourselves without searching for it.
he universe is filled with love. The world is at peace.
Mau, Bird and Tapir take care of each other. Everyone is united and happy again.
The End.
