The Great Indian Kitchen - Conceptual Surface Pattern Design
Brief : To develop an illustrative and conceptual (seamless) pattern based on the experiences around a festive season in the Indian Kitchen. The final design is to be used on various surfaces and print mediums.
With the brief, most of the instances were drawn from personal experience and it was a joy to come up with a pattern that is reflective of the region and its people. To keep it more relevant, light and inclusive, the scenes include a variety of people- young and old, men and women - from a huge family who focus on various tasks.
The style is loosely adapted from the Indian folk art form Bengal Pattachitra
A young mum layering in her cooker (above), the aunt yelling at her husband as he is about to create a huge mess, the girl hoping to sneak in a modhak while she pretends to help (below)...
Keeping it real (and sustainable) with the age old leaky cloth diapers :)
