Project Overview

The jaundice meter is a medical device that uses the optical principle to estimate the bilirubin concentration in blood in a fast, low-cost, and non-invasive way, by placing the detector on the baby's forehead or sternum.

The DPS of NCKU reached out to me with the task of designing the appearance of the jaundice meter prototype. We observed that most of the jaundice meters have a conservative medical appearance. We want to use bright colors to convey new moods and communication messages as directly and boldly as possible.
Design Concept

We observed that most of the jaundice meters on the market are more conservative in appearance, and we hope that the design of professional medical devices can be closer to the users.
Ideation

With a theme of rounded rectangle for main housing, the probe was given tender color and covered by a transparent material, inspired by nature. Besides, we considered the ease of use and the ergonomics of the handheld device. It also means an easier experience for all involved.
