Rise-up is a chair that takes shape to welcome you when you sit. While designing this chair, I wanted to play with movement and think of the shape as something that evolves and interacts with the user. I was looking for a way to use the energy provided by the person who is sitting to make the change of shape happen. This concept explores how we emotionally link an object to a movement rather than a still shape.
My first small-scale prototype, made out of MDF led me to a first real-size shape based on the assembly of basic timber wood elements. Each of these elements has a function, either structural or mechanical.
From there, I made multiple geometric variations of simple parameters such as height before sitting, height after sitting, angle of the chair’s back and designed a second version that combines different materials and a much more complex manufacturing that allows a better kinematic.
