7 Creative Strategies
The project 01 for Graphic Design at BYU-Idaho is to create a poster for each of the 7 creative strategies using an every day object. My object is a fork. The strategies are: Combinations, Juxtaposition, Isolation, Metaphor or Simile, Change of Context or Environment, Physical/Shape Similarity, and Material Change, Swap, or Focus.
Combinations: "FEETH"
In this image, forks are combined with teeth. Forks + Teeth = Feeth! I designed the forks to shine like the car.
Juxtaposition: "FROM RUST TO RUST"
This image shows a shiny plate juxtaposed against a rusty fork. The image is reversed on the bottom, showing a shiny fork against a rusty background. The title is a play on the phrase, "From dust to dust," meaning that everything started as nothing and will return to nothing. Rust is the ultimate destroyer of metal.
Isolation: "WHO'S THE NEW GUY?"
The masculine angular shape of the fork isolates it from the feminine round shape of the spoons. The spoons are leaning toward the fork, wondering, "Who's the new guy?"
Metaphor or Simile: "MUST NOT EAT"
In this image, forks are like handcuffs. It represents the struggle some people have with eating disorders.
Change of Context/Environment: "CHEESY"
This image puts the fork in the moon. It's cheesy, I know. This moon is made of Swiss.
Physical/Shape Similarity: "NATURE'S FORK"
The stick is out of place. It's meant to be obvious. It forks at the end. It's nature's fork.
Material Change, Swap, or Focus: "LITE MEAL"
It's late. You are hungry, but not that hungry. Go out into the night, towards the light, and get a lite meal.
