There was a lot of humility felt when creating this piece. Starting from traditional folk music on stilts to Pop Yeh Yeh in the 60's, XinYao in the 70s, the rise of independent music in 80s/ 90s, clubbing in the 2000s, bedroom djs and experimental producers- Singapore's music landscape has been through so much and it was a humbling experience learning more about it through local legends. Support your local musicians and give thanks to those that came before us, yall have my love and respect.

Context: Bandlab Technologies is a music company that also owns one of the oldest music stores in Singapore, Swee Lee Company that played a pivotal part in the music scene here. The brief was to incorporate music and heritage (heritage being a requirement for murals on conserved buildings) in the mural, and I thought to start my research talking to some of the veterans in the Singaporean music scene. The result is a documentation of the evolution of local music as pictured.
