Light in Nature
Preeti G.
“Light in Nature” by Preeti G. is her continued exploration of the expanses of infinite nature around her. The artworks are expressive and contemplative intersecting reality and imagination. The digital mixed media paintings reflect light and time through colour, form, space and texture involving detailed observation and extensive studies of nature. By doing community social service (seva) in the local agricultural fields throughout the year, Preeti gets to experience first-hand the changing seasons and effects of light in the natural landscape near the Yamuna river, all of which serves as a source of inspiration for the creation of the paintings in this series. Through her paintings, Preeti intends to capture simple yet profound moments in time immersed in nature through the study of light. Lastly, the paintings in the series “Light in Nature” aim to evoke peace, joy and reflection and speaks to the viewer beyond it’s contours.
Summer Afternoon (Chandmari Ka Tila, Bio-Diversity Park), Digital Painting, Preeti G., 2021
“This was the very first painting that led to the creation of the entire “Light in Nature” series. Something about that moment, the warm Indian summery landscape, was extremely inspiring. I saw the blue sky and cottony clouds, people shielding themselves from the hot sunshine with pretty umbrellas or sitting underneath the inviting shade of the trees, the earthy land intermingled with the shrubbery, as my imagination wove reality into a visual narrative… everything seemed immensely beautiful. And then there was beauty in reminiscing those passing seconds that were to last forever in my neural pathways: which urged me to express how I saw that almost dry summer afternoon as an absolutely beautiful moment in time; visualising how nature composed it and the way I chose to see it.”

Sublime Sunshine (Sikandarpur), Digital Painting, Preeti G., 2021
“There was no rainbow that summer afternoon, yet there it was,
Painted in my imagination;
Colors emanating from the whitest portion of natural light
In the vast blue sky;
Colours merging back in,
To where they came from, as One;
Pure nature breathed beauty
Into each soul and speck of air passing by;
Peace vibrating in the Indian breeze,
And the fields of the mysterious yet familiar;”

“As a blanket of ink engulfs this sphere,
I immerse my soul into a place of sun shining,
And explore time through infinite expanses.”

Towards Beauty and Light (Kuan No. 4), Digital Painting, Preeti G., 2021
“There was this beautiful opening nestled between two stately trees in a nearby field where we were working that captured my imagination. The mystery, intrigue the natural composition exuded and the beauty of that moment in time urged me to paint. What I saw was glistening sunlight filtering through a canopy of leaves, dancing on the earth below our feet and the verdant foliage, as one could glimpse dots of people working peacefully in the fields ahead. It was a warm sunny evening, a few days after the August month of August had passed, yet still there was a lingering scent of it in the air. A serene, simple yet profound moment encapsulated in my memory for eternity… now expressed as a painting to hopefully last through time.”

Monsoon Clouds as Dusk Arrives (Kuan No. 4), Digital Painting, Preeti G., 2021
“silkened cotton over powdery blue;
as afternoon opened her doors to cloudy evening;
the pristine whites and subtle greys embraced hues;
as tints of dawn glistened from beneath the expansive weaving.”

Canopy of Light (Near the Jubilee Gate, A View of the Diary), Digital Painting, Preeti G., 2021
“This painting took a long time to paint, to capture all the details of the gorgeous natural light filtering through the clouds, etc. As my artistic practice involves merging realit y with imagination, especially in this series - instead of the actual grey road, I painted flourishing foliage and grass in the foreground. It expressed how that moment felt - suffused in the light in nature and embraced by the scented breeze of the agricultural fields nearby - blissful and beautiful.”

Verdant Paddy Fields (Kuan No. 3), Digital Painting, Preeti G., 2021
“As October is the season of the rice harvest here, where the dried rice stalks are beaten on the ground to separate the kernels from the stalk: this painting is featured on the October page this year. Even though this scene is from a period around the month of August, when the paddy had been long sown in expansive fields glimmering with water; the verdant beauty, serene skies, soft light and the calmness of that moment made this landscape a perfect expression for cozy October. Also, this moment was reminiscent of a nascent period from where the journey of the ripe rice that we harvest started from, perfectly fitting as we approach the last few months of the year and look back on our journey of growth and warm memories symbolically.”
