An eagle standing on a persimmon
The University of Ioannina is considered one of the most notable academic institutions in Greece, and among the 1,000 most prominent ones across the globe. When we were asked to redesign its logotype, we paid attention to the original - the Dodonian eagle sitting on a lotus fruit - inventing ways to update it without losing its core substance. For that reason, we created a refined and simplified icon of the eagle, standing as a reference to the iconic scenery and symbols of Epirus. The logotype incorporates elements of the distinctive stone bridges and the stone wall structure that can be seen in the greater Ioannina area, as well as pointing out the university and its auditorium. This contemporary version of the logotype is getting synchronized with the youthful spirit of an academic environment, inviting the University of Ioannina into a new era.
