The first step consisted of making a simple-straight forward-inventory of all the flora at the site. We needed to create symbols that had minimal detail but that would still help visitors to identify each plant.

For the next step we created a map that reflected the distribution of the vegetation so all guests could find their way around the roof garden.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that in creating these illustrations we ended up generating a new source of income for the upkeep of this garden, since they could be turned into pins and sold at the school’s konbini as souvenirs.
