Here’s a new series of automotive images we retouched for Innocean. Our team consisted of ACD, Pat Zimmerman with her laser focus and critical eye. She relied on world-renowned Photographer, Jeff Ludes to capture the automotive assets. Jeff in turn collaborated with the expert retouchers from Studio KB to execute his vision for the project. These photos presented with all the normal retouching challenges: giant images of 30,000+ pixels long side, panoramic composites with architecture, and very complex composites with hundreds of layers sometimes. However, the real challenges for the Ioniq 5 images were the creation of a sophisticated color palette, the pixel design on the steering wheel, which was completely illustrated, and CG headrests that needed to be seamlessly integrated. Now, add a tight deadline and throw in some unforeseen product updates and you have a make it or break it scenario.
Luckily, we have been doing this for over 10 years, so we broke it down step by step. The first thing we needed to agree on was the color palette since it would greatly influence all the shots as a whole. This was not without some color tests, experimentation, and back and forth collaboration. However, we were soon able to nail down 4 images that could be used as samples for the others. Next, we moved on with all the other retouching steps, getting images to round 2 or 3 before adding on the pixel illustration and CG headrests. Happily, most of those were approved without any feedback and that’s a good thing because the deadline was approaching. In the end, everyone was very pleased with the sophisticated outcome and it was another automotive retouching job in the books for Studio KB.
