A COMPACT, COUNTERTOP- FRIENDLY DISHWASHER IS INSPIRED BY ELEPHANT BATHING RITUALS
Elle aims at creating a small cleaning environment for every meal, helping in the storage of utensils along with the provision of a hassle free using environment.
Elle is a mini countertop dishwasher suited for the present day lifestyle of nuclear families. Inspired from giant elephants in nature, Elle takes up a roto flow form as an abstraction of God's creation. Looking into the majestic bathing rituals of these majestic species, with water gracefully yet forcefully sprayed from their trunks, the functional aspect of Elle as a dishwasher came into being. Elle is therefore, an exploration in terms of a biomimetic form incorporating functions of a product subtly.
The research phase of Elle was focused upon nuclear families and the identified issue being a fast paced lifestyle and hence a lack of time. Key points from a user survey highlighted existing problems within a normal dishwasher including points such as the time taken to load in dishes, the huge capacity preventing cleaning of a limited set of dishes and so on. Considering a nuclear family whose requirements are smaller in scale, the identified gap for a product intervention stemmed up.
Key issues identified through a parallel product study included the overall space consumption, cost expenses and the overall massive forms. These aspects hinder our desire to buy a dishwasher. Therefore, this is a design attempt that hopes for a counter top mini dishwasher to reduce the volume it takes up as much as possible to fit a small space. More importantly, try to eliminate the inherent impression that a dishwasher is too mechanical, so that the experience of dishwashing is made easy and less time consuming, ultimately proving to be a healthy exercise for the user.
