Envisioning workshop - Domus Academy
Maestro explores new methods of directing and experiencing music in a public interactive art installation. Interactive installations invite people to conduct a live band, using their mobile devices, through stimuli such as colors, imagery and setting the tempo. This open interpretation of written sheet music is inspired by a live jazz performance, in which each band creates a unique quality through improvisation and “call and response” techniques.
The musicians (in a studio or on stage) will have a companion digital experience that displays the stimuli along with sheet music or a set list. The experience transforms mobile devices into a conductor’s baton, while protecting the original quality of the musical composition. Maestro will be a playful activity for both the participants and the spectators in the transit waiting area, enriched by the real time musical feedback to digital messages.
Research Process
We researched the pros and cons of the various types of big events that happen in a city and the effects they have on the environment and people, to finally arrive at this concept.
