Cindy Wider (AUS/UK)...Revealed

Artist: Cindy Wider
Title: Woman With Red Hair
Size: 100 x 70cm
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Description:
I painted this image to commemorate the moment when the red-haired Julia Gillard became the first Female Australian Prime Minister in 2007. I chose to colour my own hair from blonde to red in order to make a personal statement of power. I think about this fascination that women have with hair, makeup, clothes and general appearance; how we choose to present ourselves to the world. Even the fact of whether or not we care about our appearance makes a statement in itself.
It’s all about my personal quest to seek a balance between power and femininity. In other words, how do we remain feminine yet allow our full power to be released at the same time without it appearing overly masculine?

Title: Portrait of A Girl With No Name
Size: 100 x 80cm
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Description:
Seeking identity through my hair has always been a large part of my
Life. There is such a big difference with how people treat me; as a blonde and then a brunette or a red-head. Which colour do I choose? Who am I? I look to various powerful sensual women in popular culture for answers.
What is it about how we present ourselves to the world through the way we style our hair, clothes and makeup that is so important to many women? These are questions I ask as I seek to find balance between power and femininity.

Title: Woman With Her Cuppa II
Size: 100 x 100cm
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

Description:
I first painted this image to celebrate the great cuppa break; whether it be a cup of tea, coffee or any warm soothing drink. I am intrigued at this social ritual that we do and its far more than simply sipping a warm beverage. So many connections are made over a cuppa and we can even sit and contemplate life’s bigger issues with a cuppa on our own. I also consider our addictions and ask myself why we need this nurturing ritual, why do I need my cuppa break?

Australian-born in 1968, Cindy Wider grew up in Papua New Guinea where nature was her playground. The memories of that childhood remain in her fantasies and imagination to inspire her richly-coloured, intensely beautiful paintings. At the age of 11 years Cindy returned with her parents and siblings to live in Australia from 1979 until 2013. She currently lives and works in West Yorkshire the United Kingdom along with her husband(also an artist) and their two young daughters.

A multi-award winning gallery represented fine artist Cindy was short-listed for the Wayne Kratzmann Art Award in 2011 and her artwork was included in ‘Connection’ a touring exhibition of the 2011 Queensland Regional Art Awards. This exhibition was curated by Michele Helmrich (Senior Curator, University of Queensland Art Museum) and was shown at the State Library of Queensland in 2012.

Cindy was selected as one of twelve artists for the ABC open and Queensland Arts Council project ‘Artist by Artist’ in 2011 and a documentary was created about her artwork. Her most recent solo touring exhibition titled “Rolling Hills of White Flat – the reality and fantasy of life on the land from a feminine perspective” was very well received at the prestigious Outback Regional Gallery Waltzing Matilda Centre Winton, Queensland. http://www.matildacentre.com.au/exhibition-archives/-/asset_publisher/xC93/content/rolling-hills-of-white-flat?redirect=%2Fexhibition-archives
