Endless Possibilities 2021

Endless Possibilities is a sculpture that has been one year in the making. Over time, Reishi and Turkey Tail mushrooms will emerge from the structure at their own pace.

The sculpture will continue to develop and change form. This serves as a reminder for us to recognise the formation of habits and benefits of mindfulness. The sculpture symbolises the act of self-reflection.

As focal points shift and differ depending on our current perspective, we can hope that sculpture will observe itself fruiting the mushrooms through its lenses.

In Mycology, the climate has to be right. The environment has to be clean. And timing is key. Being able to focus on this process has helped me to grow personally.

What we focus on changes how we perceive our experiences. Our brains are powerful. Finding the good in difficult times is not always easy, but it can be done. My wish is to look at the path of endless possibilities as the way forward. And I wish endless possibilities for you too.

Hello everyone!
I am embarking on a new journey of discovery and have decided to crowdfund for an ongoing and developing project.

If you would like to donate to the project please buy me a coffee via this link
Or feel free to donate via Paypal:

If you would like to ask me any questions, please DM, comment or email. Feel free to share the post too.
Thanks for your help and Happy New year to all of you!

I have received encouragement from mentors, friends, family and patrons for my current project Endless Possibilities.
In order to develop more prototypes of sculptures that are made in this current vein of creation, I need to offset the running costs of making, exhibiting and maintaining these various sculptures. Please donate if you can.
This will also form part of my thesis for my Master's Degree in Sculptural Conceptions.

More about this sculpture and a new direction:

Certain parts of the sculpture are inoculated with mycelium. There are two species in Endless Possibilities, namely Reishi and Turkey Tail. Both are prized for their medicinal properties however that was not the main reason for selecting them. They were chosen for their hardiness, texture and aesthetic. (I do think all Fungi are beautiful in their own right! :) )
Reishi (Ganoderma Lucidum) can take anywhere between 6 months and 2 years to produce antlers or conks under the right conditions. Turkey Tail (Trametes Versicolor) are said to take about 2 months to fruit. Both of these species are in Endless Possibilities and the sculpture itself stands in an old reservoir that has been beautifully adapted into a building. Therefore I have high hope that they will fruit sooner rather than later due to the high moisture.
Throughout 2021 I have been experimenting with Mycology and have actively grown Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus Ostreatus)  to hone the various steps of sterilization and preparation. I have also inoculated Oak logs with Plug spawn and Grain spawn and despite the logs being fully colonized already, fruiting is a good few months away due to the nature of the slow spread of mycelium in the logs.

This is all very important because the next step in my art making process is integrating mycelium with previous modes of creating, that is to say a new direction of art making.

In addition, I am studying how to use mycelium as the main material and have plans to develop various lens making techniques.
