Story background

The environmental damage of express packaging

Due to the rapid development of the Internet, people's demand for online shopping is increasing. Daily necessities, even food, are one of the main choices for people to shop online. According to Greenpeace (2019), in 2018, China's express packaging generated 13,031,000 tons of carbon emissions. Need to plant 710 million trees to neutralise these carbon emissions. And according to this article, it can be seen that not only for China, but for the world, the express delivery volume will only increase year by year, and the damage to the environment will also increase year by year.

The recovery rate of clean foam boxes is 70-80%, and the express plastic packaging has a low recycling value, and is pasted with plastic tape and waybills. The existing recycling methods cannot be recycled and these plastic bags can only be incinerated or landfilled.

Three types of express parcels

At present, express packaging mainly uses the following three types as package materials. According to China Express Package Abandonment Research Report (2019), because 95% of express plastic packaging bags have a low recycling price, and are pasted with plastic tape and waybills, the existing recycling channels cannot be processed, and they will eventually be incinerated or landfilled together with domestic waste.

So my final idea is to design an item that makes people to voluntarily separate the waybill from the express package before throwing it away. Finally, the plastic express packaging can have a better recycling effect, thereby increasing the recycling rate of plastic express packaging and protecting the environment.

“Collect stamp” use the same form, bring this cultural concept into the design.

Although the traditional express delivery list contains a lot of personal information, most people (including myself) are unwilling to tear it down then throw it away.

So I added the concept of "stamp" to the traditional express delivery list. Each company and each brand has its own unique style or form, which is similar to today's fashion brand culture. When this culture is integrated into the express delivery list, these lists will be as valuable as previous stamps. People are willing to collect valuable things, and naturally this will result in the separation of plastic bags and paper, achieving the goal of increasing the recycling rate.
