Turning grayscale into vibrant colors

This is an age-old technique that utilizes the "color assimilation" effect to add colors to pictures. This perceptual phenomenon, scientifically known as the Von Bezold spreading effect, occurs when our visual system transfers perceived colors to adjacent areas.

Incorrect. In reality, the pumpkins are all rendered in shades of gray, as shown in the following picture!

Only the thin grid of concentric hexagons is tinted with colors. It is important to note that the spaces between the hexagons remain blank.
Consequently, this experiment demonstrates that our brains process shapes and colors in two distinct regions that communicate with each other to construct a single, coherent, and colorful image.
