An Exploration of Art & Design Movements
The 4+1 Catalog was a school assignment in which we were challenged to design 4 spreads on 4 design movements in either art or graphic design history. The 5th spread is when we were really able to use our creativity to forecast what the next big movement is going to be. I chose Constructivism, Art Deco, Conceptual Art, & Deconstructivism as my main movements. For the last movement I chose to try to explain and define what I am seeing in current design trends that call back to illustrative work of mid-century hand-drawn signs/graphics as well as the folk artwork that I believe really started with the late, great Margaret Kilgallen. I decided to name this movement Future Folk (based on a term I read in an interview with Andrew Holder, an artist whose work I believe perfectly falls into this category).
