A coral reef is a ridge or mountain of limestone whose top surface is near the sea surface. Coral reefs are made of calcium carbonate. The last ice age marked the formation of coral reefs as melting ice raised sea levels and flooded the continental plates. Coral reefs are found in the deep sea far from the continental shelf and around oceanic islands like atolls, most of which are volcanically derived.
Calcium Carbonate (Calcium Oxide) also named Limestone, Chalk, Marble or Whiting. It is a most useful flux in stoneware/porcelain glazes (especially above 1180°c). Whiting gives shine, mattifies and promotes hardness. Gives special colors in different glazes-recipes. Chalk makes a glaze harder and less sensitive to acids.
This work was finished with glaze residue. Artists also have an important role to play in achieving the transition from a linear to circular economy. By using glaze residues, the consumers of my products also become environmentally conscious citizens.
