“Shower” is a Music Video which I collaborated with Taiwanese musicians and music producer.We think that "rain" could represent the loneliness of people in the city, but it also allows people isolate hustle and bustle, making people settle their minds. We believe that in a busy modern city, especially in Taipei which is humid and rainy, "rain" is actually a kind of common memory within people. In order to refrain from telling a rainy story in a clichéd manner, we decided to use creative animation to illustrate a fantasy rainy adventure, and tried to use my imagination, capturing the feeling of the song. When I heard the piano of this song, I seem to hear the sound of rain falling, and Edward Hopper's painting "Nightingale" appeared in my mind. The empty and charming sense of loneliness in "Nightingale" attracted me deeply.
Edward Hopper's lonely American contemporary life landscape has deeply influenced me. Taipei and Shanghai these two cities where I live are also due to excessive urbanization. Although they have a large population, people are far away from each other.
I used some artificial symbols in the city as a metaphor, such as subways, zebra crossings, street lights and even windows in the city, to express the isolation of people and misunderstanding in modern city.
In cooperation with a music production studio from Taipei, we through music and animation to protrait a shared sense of lonely live in city that belongs to us. I chose melancholy black and grey as main color of the screen, with the rhythm of the music and the story, putting some red to highlight the warm and connection in rain. In the midnight rain of the city, we may be accompanied by a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, a cigarette or the bustle of the city. We shower with the lonely city.
