Wall of Smiles Murals

Reception/Waiting area

The Wall of smiles project is a collaboration between Starship Children's Hospital, Mercury Energy and Chemistry Interaction, in order to make the hospital more lively and fun for the kids.

Eight design students from AUT University were selected to brighten up different sections of the hospital, drawing inspiration from children's answers to 3 questions. I worked with 2 other students to create the murals for the reception and the main waiting area for kids and their family. Our question was 'What things make you happy?' From the answers that we received, we decided to create a continuous outdoor theme of land, sky, space and water.

The murals were installed at the end of November. The designs and murals shown below are completed by me, but there are 5 different walls in total which our group were assigned to.
