The main mission of this project was to create a series of 3D Renderings faithfully depicting the ground floor of Kunsthaus Bregenz, a museum in Austria designed by Peter Zumpthor. I also wanted to showcase three of my digital sculptures which can be seen on the three pedestals in the center of the room.
I modeled the whole scene from scratch and meticulously engineered the shaders to match the look of the real space.

I used Zbrush and Sculptris for the sculptures. I used Blender for modeling, texturing and rendering. I used Photoshop to create some texture maps and for post processing.
Feel free to do an image search for photography of the museum to see how I did. I was particularly inspired by the photography by Hélène Binet.
The sculptures were themselves an undertaking. They are meant as a tryptic to depict Dawn, Day, and Dusk. They were created with a combination of Sculptris, Zbrush, and Blender's sculpting tools. I engineered the bronze shader with Blenders shader nodes and maps from Poliigon.
I liked the idea of including a render of photography lights, as if this was actually a photoshoot scheduled to capture this floor of the museum. I modeled these from scratch as well.
The ceiling was an important feature to get right in this space. The uneven grid of sealant and the air bubbles in the concrete were important qualities that took a lot of tweaking in the shader setup. I created the grid of sealant on the ceiling by hand-painting a roughness map in photoshop to mimic the uneven look.
I also spent some time on the unique pendant lamps that fill the space. I recreated the distinct bulb pattern of the industrial lamps by observing the reference photography and painting my own emission map in Photoshop.
