The French Longere project stands as one of the most enjoyable residential ventures I have undertaken, spanning from its conceptualization to the creation of bespoke furniture and procurement. This residence, from its background to its concept design, has been a labor of love for me. Designed as a showcase home for the client, it serves as the prototype for fractional ownership holiday homes. Throughout the design process, one of the primary challenges we encountered was navigating the permissions required from the French government for demolition and restoration works. Balancing these regulatory constraints with our vision, we sought to enhance the luminosity of the existing property, which suffered from dim interiors, while also making substantial alterations to the layout to create a more inviting living space.

Furthermore, I aimed to reimagine the property as a comfortable family home capable of accommodating ten adults, necessitating thoughtful spatial planning and innovative solutions. Despite the hurdles, the end result is a testament to our commitment to seamlessly blending tradition with modernity, creating a residence that exudes both charm and functionality. I began the project by creating an organizational diagram to map out the relationships between units, adapting them according to the needs. It was evident that the project would predominantly feature open-plan layouts, but I also prioritized maintaining privacy in the bedroom areas. This delicate balance ensured that while fostering connectivity, individual sanctuaries were preserved, enhancing the overall livability of the space.

When selecting materials and establishing the mood, I drew inspiration from the cozy Scandinavian style. Embracing raw and authentic materials, furniture that celebrates craftsmanship, minimalist decor, textured fabrics, and elegant lighting took center stage. This direction aimed to evoke a sense of warmth and comfort while maintaining a timeless and sophisticated aesthetic.
When designing the kitchen, I prioritized ergonomic functionality by paying close attention to the kitchen triangle. Despite the open-plan layout, I strategically incorporated elements such as a fireplace and staircase to delineate spaces and provide privacy. Additionally, the staircase positioned at the entrance serves a dual purpose, also creating a sense of privacy between the home office and the living area.
