Would-be "on-location" drawing on the topic of the war in Iraq.
War in Iraq

The final project for my Narrative Sketchbook class: to make a would-be on-location narrative using the New Yorker article Soldiers' Stories as a jumping-off point.

My concept was to illustrate the war in Iraq as not simply a war of guns and explosives, but as the inability of the American soldiers, Iraqi combatants, the Iraqi civilians, and all sides involved to understand, communicate with, and agree with each other.
The full 24x18" poster - created with nib pen/ink, copic markers, and white gouache
on a grey 24x18" Canson sheet. Closeup below.
