MEDS Workshop
During participation at Meds - the summer student workshop in Lisbon, we have been working in teams trying to revitalize the neighborhood Graca in various ways. Vila Rodrigues is a multicultural habitat where people of different nationalities live and don't talk to each other. The main goal was to find a way to bring some life and movement to the courtyard and invite the inhabitants to get out of their houses, to bring the sense of community back.
The idea was to build a mobile table and a mobile kitchen in order to try to make the people seat together around the table, to cook and share their national meals. There's also an installation with hanging pots upside down connecting the two sides of the galleries. The inhabitants of the upper level shower the plants which will provide shadow to the people who live on the ground floor. In the evening of the presentation of our mobile furniture some of the inhabitants started to talk to each other for the first time, even though they've been living there for the most of their lives. We've been happy to be able to contribute to new quality in their daily routine.
