Joy Division - Isolation
Single cover and booklet
Single cover and booklet
This is an academic exercise, made for a Typography course in my Master's in Design and Multimedia, that consisted in picking a song and creating the cover and a spread that worked as a booklet. It should have the name of the song, the band/artist and all the lyrics, using only typographic elements.
I chose the song "Isolation", by Joy Division, and I tried, through the composition and typography, to express that feeling, latent throughout the music. To better do this, in the cover, I opted to put the title of the song in low caps, increase the tracking substantially and put the "i" in brackets. On the inside, in the left page, I emphasized this last element for 3 reasons: first, I realized that, in the typeface I was using (Scala), the lowercase "i" is very similar to the number 1 (which may symbolize loneliness and isolation), at the same time can represent the first person (I) and can be linked to the first letter of Joy Division's lead singer, Ian Curtis.
A big thanks to M. Miguel Rosmaninho for the help in the decisions and the unconditional support.
