SPILO / Modern tap with a vintage touch

SPILO is a project with the idea to make something different from my daily basis works, with the intention to simulate a real job with the purpose to be published on a catalogue, with a simple and clean layout but at the same time with something that could attract the observer's gaze.

Surfing between Pinterest, Google and Instagram looking for ideas and inspiration, I came across different style, modern, vintage, single or double tap, and many and many different materials I could have chosen for my project.
For the final design, I chose to create a modern simple shape with a single tap for hot and cold water.
Below is possible to see the topology for the low polygon model and also the high version
Next step was to select a combination of materials which could work together pretty well, which could give the idea of modern but also that touch of vintage that is in vogue in these days.
For the purpose, I decided to combine a classic stainless steel for the faucet, terrazzo and carbon fibre for tap element.
Having the model ready, I prepared the UW of my model so as to be imported in Substance Painter, where I could easily try combination and different type of materials.
Below the final version of the chosen materials and combination
Reached this point, was time to finalise the job for the final render.
I added some elements to the scene and I did some composition as well.
Placed the lights for my needs and set the exposure
Being happy with the results, but not happy with my self, I carried on working on the scene.
It wasn't enough, so I ended up deciding to try some water simulation using Phoenix FD of Chaosgroup.
It hasn't been easy not doing animation. Doing only still renders I encountered the problems of camera design, sound design, compositing and especially the render time.
With a lot of patient, with the same idea in my mind to keep everything as simple as possible, I set up the scene and the surrounding area so as to give a credible context.
I chose to give at the tap a concrete sink as support, as well made thanks to substance painter.
when scene was ready, was time for the actual simulation, it took few tries to get the right set up.
The simulation was ready, I did some test to understand which limit was acceptable to save some render time on my machine, and after that I pressed play.
I composed the jpeg sequence in After Effect and added the sound in Premiere.
And here just a still image taken from the video
