Grafikmagazin 06.21

Editorial
»Information Design« Grafikmagazin 06.21

Are you in need of a little variety? This issue takes variability to the maximum. Grafikmagazin 06.21 comes with 3000 different cover motives! Every copy is different, not only the graphics vary, but also the hot foil and 3D varnish finishings. And all the issues are numbered, so you know exactly, which copy – out of 3000 – you got. One of our readers posted: »I got number 0002, how crazy is that!«

But the cover also hints to our Grafik+ topic: »Information Design«. How can we use data to serve humans? How can the visualisation of knowledge lead to new findings and how can the analysis of architectural data be used to fight human rights violations and environmental racism? Information design is much more than graphics, it is a fascinating practice to gain new insights.

We also present a lot of projects and ideas that center around the topic of sustainability. And of course there’s a lot to fuel your own creativity: branding projects, logo designs, type design, magazines, books, illustrations and plainly a lot of great design.

All this and much more awaits you in our Grafik+ section on »Information Design« and in Grafikmagazin 06.21.
Content

In this issue we focus on »Information Design«, but also on sustainability. We explain how truly sustainable print production works and present a great book project on renewable energies. In our photo section we take a look a the great graphical facades of houses in central Brazil and at the now so pretty structures of server farms. We discuss how much a designer's work is or should be worth and we talk to Katja Berlin about people who steal ideas and don't even realise why that is wrong.

Of course we also present a lot of great works to inspire. Jonathan Puckey combines coding and design to connect people and Pierre-Emmanuel Lyet's illustrations are strong, colourful and poetic. Guillermo Gonzáles Ruiz is an old master of Argentinian design, whose works are still inspiring. The Red Dot Award is always a good source of ideas, we present this year's winners.

And as always there’s great books and magazines to be discovered, type design and great illustrations.

The cover

This cover was printed digitally in 3000 different versions! The graphics show stylised info graphics and hint to the focus of this issue: »Information Design«.

The hot foil finishing also comes in different versions and in gold and silver. A 3D varnish enhances the masthead and the consecutive numbers of each issue from 0001 to 3000.

The cover was printed on MetsäBoard Prime FBB Bright in 305 gsm. This paper is very well suited for packagings and all kinds of print finishings and its fibres stem from sustainably managed forests in Scandinavia.
