Amazing Animals Project

BACKGROUND
In this project, we combine traditional and digital techniques to create four art pieces of our chosen animal. In this project, I have chosen to create the four art pieces which included an encyclopedia illustration, logo design, gestural illustration, and a transformative illustration based off of a baby chick using different tools and techniques like micron pens, graphite, brush pens, and software like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

ENCYCLOPEDIA ILLUSTRATION
For this encyclopedia illustration, I used different tools like pencils, chalk, and erasers to create a realistic illustration of a baby chick. With a reference, I was able to recreate different shades, contrasts and highlights, as well as textures of it's feathers to imitate a real version of the photo.
LOGO DESIGN
For my logo design, I wanted to create a simplistic yet intriguing design. Contrary to my previous sketches that are seen below, I decided to closely imitate the shape of the baby chick as referenced in the encyclopedia drawing. Using sharpie and micron pens, I was able to achieve the shape of the animal and added lines to add dimension.

GESTURAL ILLUSTRATION
Using an ink brush pen, I recreated the shape of the baby chick to capture the essence of the animal. By using light and feathery strokes of the pen, I was able to explore and create different ways to represent a baby chick's feathers and it's overall flow.

TRANSFORMATIVE ILLUSTRATION
Using transfer paper and pencils, I created a transformative illustration and took a play on the "baby chick" costume. Putting the baby chick into a chicken costume itself was a fun and playful way to showcase a literal yet ironic "transformation".

PROCESS:
Below are different thumbnails for my logo and transformative designs. As previously stated, I figured my logo that these thumbnails weren't working out, so I went with what it listed above. For my transformative drawings, I look creative word plays, tried
PROCESS: GESTURE
In these gestural sketches, each took about 30-90 seconds the draw. These were some sketches that I liked, but didn't quite think fit well with what I was going for. Therefore, I went with more of the realistic shape of the baby chick as seen above.
