ZEWA DESIGN CONTEST 2017 | tissue dispenser

ZEWA | tissue dispenser
| brief
In 2017 I participated at Zewa® Design Contest by Essity Hungary Ltd. The contest notice was to design a tissue paper dispenser that is capable to store toilet paper and wet wipes at the same time. The aim of contest was to create an innovative product that is easy to manufacture and consists as few parts as it is possible.
| approach
I tried to achieve a simple, clear design so I started the process with two simple geometry shapes: cylinder and cuboid (originated from the shape of toilet paper and wet wipe package). Then I figured out their relative positioning. Furthermore I wanted to equip it with a special function that is useful and really makes sense without overcomplicating the design. This is when I realized that a small shelf would be a great accessory of toileting habits of the 21st century.
| parts
The dispenser consists 3 main parts: a small drawer for the moist toilet tissue, an inner wooden cylinder which consists two brackets and four screws and the body itself which is symmetric so it can be installed both on the right and left side of toilet.
| outcome
In the end of the project I had to make a prototype to demonstrate the results of 4 months. I used 3D printing to create plastic parts of the dispenser and laser cutting for the wooden part. In the end of the contest I won the audience award with over 6000 votes.
