Kawari Kabuto Samurai
Personal work, 2020-2021, black archival ink on paper.
This series of animal warriors includes portraits of a small spotted genet, a red fox and a panda, and is to this date one of my favourite personal projects. It is a product of my love for samurai armour and especially the kawari kabuto or "strange helmets".
Though not particularly big, each drawing took between 6 and 8 hours of inking and was comprised of thousands of tiny lines, as you can see in detail below.
Work in progress: small spotted genet
Work in progress: red fox
I drew all the samurai with black sakura micron ink pens (sizes: 001 to 03) on Arches hot pressed watercolour paper.
