The Qualities of Boxing
In the application of Western Boxing to Thailand's Muay Thai one of the most compelling aspects that it can bring is the invasion of space. Western Boxing has influenced Muay Thai since the 1920s, woven into its DNA, but its qualities of fight space invasion are often lost in the preferred distances of Muay Thai. These photos are from our recent filming with WBC World Boxing Champion "Eagle" Den Junlaphan at EAGLE GYM in Pattaya. These photos bring forward the internal pressures of a boxer in spaces often dedicated to clinch in Muay Thai, aesthetically. It's a visual argument for what boxing can bring. It is that small, dynamic circle right in front of you.

This is an underdeveloped dimension within Thailand's Muay Thai, bringing interior pressure and rhythms to the same aiuola ruled by clinch and elbows. Forcing the fight into this space, under these capacities. Fight on the "threshing floor".

above, legends Roberto Duran, Sagat, Samson and Langsuan in brief compilation. Duran a master inside fighter. Sagat and Samson were elite Muay Thai fighters who also fought for world boxing titles. Langsuan was a Muay Khao FOTY who sometimes would incorporate boxing strikes within the clinch space.
