Illustration Portfolio | 3. Way-finder Icons
Next up is kind of a public service piece, really.
We were challenged with designing a series of black-and-white icons, which would substitute the signposts used around the college. The goal would be so that even those who couldn't read English (or who don't know what each section of the college specializes in), these 10" x 10" icons would give students, staff, and guests an easier way to navigate around the campus.
The icons themselves were made to signify each of the following:
Administration, Business, Communications, Engineering Systems, Engineering Technology, Fine Arts, Horticulture Greenhouse, Liberal Arts,
Library, Physical Education, Security, Science and Allied Health,
Student Center, Theater, even areas such as Cafeteria and public Bathrooms.
Personally, I think these might be one of my favorite in my class portfolio. There's just something about seeing these simple yet complex designs form together into a cohesively effective design. And placing these icons into cubic form like this just exudes that feeling further.
