Missy Elliot - Sock It 2 Me
A risograph poster based on the 1997 music video "Sock it 2 me".
I've been a long-time fan of Missy Elliot and wanted to create a poster of one of her songs. I wanted the poster to have minimal color, texture, and have a comic book feel to it.

Sketches
Layout sketches
I did two quick layout sketches. I went with the second version because it had more action and room to add other characters in the poster.
Figure drawing outline
The face I drew started to look like Cardi B. Missy Elliot has amazing hair in all her music videos so I removed the helmet.
Texture
I recently bought in a Procreate brush pack and wanted to test them out in this drawing. I had to show some restraint and limit myself to two texture brushes. Less is more!
Halftone textures
I experimented using halftones on the face. I went with a smaller dot size and erased certain areas to show the contour of her face. After taking a break from drawing and coming back with fresh perspective I saw in "Halftone texture 1" the dot size was too big and hid the detail of Missy’s face.
Background
The halftone brush for the background wasn’t subtle so I used a different style of texture brush that randomized a pattern. The effect worked out well as it made the explosion look more cloud like.
