We were approached by Lebowski Publishers (NL) to make designs for the reissue of two books from their collection. With a good dose of creative freedom, we delved into the themes of these novels to create two striking, fresh and modern covers.
The first, Waterjager, takes place in a submerged Paramaribo. Only the outcasts have remained and the city is governed by its own laws. Twenty years earlier, Joshua left for the Netherlands with his mother, fleeing the water. However, he was never able to find his way there. He is now trying to find a home in the land of his youth. The atmosphere soon becomes grim and this quest turns into a spiritual journey to find the meaning of life.
The boat is a powerful symbol for this quest and therefore the center of our design. The abstracted shape is also reminiscent of a bullet, revealing the multiple layers of this story. The water pattern depicts the constantly changing process of the search for who you really are.
