Mixed Media Reflective Journal (2018)
The cosmos in particular was one of my main inspirations for the design. My subject for study was Erykah Badu, another of my favourite musicians.

The two(2) images of deep space was used for her hair, areas of her nose, and her eyes. The beads on her hand were replaced by an eight ball, which was duplicated, and resized multiple times. The main textures for her skin are cardboard, paper, a patterned image, an up-close image of the sun giving off solar flares, a piece of brown fabric, and gold aluminium foil.

For her lips, I used strawberries, and another picture of the solar system. A black background with lines was used for the upper part of her neck, an image of a necklace worn by another female was used for her lower neck, and an image of ripe red coffee beans was used in between her necklace.

The area on her chest was created using some of the same cardboard and paper images. Other images such as a green piece of fabric, a piece of cloth, textured silk fabric, cardboard, and paper, along with other textures, were used on her hand to simulate shades and tones to give the illusion of shape and form.

The jewellery on her hand was also replaced with that of an African woman from the Ndebele tribe. These women are famous for the rings worn around their necks, which become stretched and elongated due to wearing these rings for most of their lives. This is considered as beautiful in their culture/tribe.

I used a picture of the marijuana plant for the right side of the background, and an image of a banana leaf on the left side. The shade of green on the right is visibly darker than that on the left, which is why I chose these two images.
